Toward a Carbon-Neutral Society

Promoting decarbonization through the expansion of electrification, vehicle intelligence and innovative monozukuri and manufacturing

In 2015, the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21) adopted a historic climate change agreement to keep temperature rise “well below” 2 degrees Celsius.

The COP21 agreement will promote measures for global greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions to peak as soon as possible and achieve a balance between GHG emissions by human activity and carbon absorption by nature in the second half of this century.

Also in 2015, the United Nations announced the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as part of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. In this pledge SDG 13, “Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts,” is one of the key goals.

Nissan’s steps to reduce CO2 emissions

The business structures of the automobile industry are changing greatly in the face of demand to reduce CO2 emissions and dependence on fossil fuels. As a global automaker, Nissan takes into account CO2 emissions through the whole value chain, including suppliers, from the procurement of raw materials to the transportation and operation of vehicles. Understanding the importance of balancing efforts in this area with business activities, the company is striving to reduce emissions through initiatives such as developing new technologies and using renewable energy.

Key Activities in NGP2030

We are committed to achieving carbon neutrality through our daily operations and the lifecycle of our products by 2050. We will make electrification and manufacturing technologies top priorities as they play critical roles in Nissan’s journey toward carbon neutrality.
